It is an old Russian tradition to celebrate the arrival of Spring during "Maslenitsa". Maslenitsa is one pagan holiday that's still celebrated in Russia today, that holiday marks the coming of spring. During the week of Maslenitsa people eat buttery bliny, which represent the golden sun of spring. It is traditional to build on the snow fortresses and to burn a scarecrow of the winter. The forgiveness sunday is the last day of the week and an opportunity to ask relatives and friends for forgiveness.
